FAQ's
The following information is for educational purposes only and should not replace professional veterinary advice. Always consult with your veterinarian before making changes to your pet's diet.
Ordering & Delivery
How does made-to-order work?
We don't keep inventory sitting in freezers for months. When you place an order, we custom-process your pet's food fresh to ensure maximum nutritional value and quality. This means your pet gets the freshest possible raw food every time.
What are your business hours?
We're available Tuesday through Saturday, 9am-6pm EST. Orders placed outside these hours will be processed on the next business day.
How long does it take to receive my order?
Since we process orders fresh, please allow time for custom processing and delivery. Contact us for specific timing based on your order size and location.
Do you offer local pickup?
Yes! Contact us to arrange pickup during our business hours (Tuesday-Saturday, 9am-6pm).
Raw Feeding Basics
What should I feed?
A balanced raw diet typically consists of 80% muscle meat, 10% raw meaty bones, and 10% secreting organ meat (5% of which is usually liver). Consult your veterinarian to determine the best ratio for your pet's specific needs.
How much should I feed and how often?
Adult dogs are commonly fed approximately 2-3% of their ideal body weight. Puppies may be fed at 3% of expected adult weight or fed according to current age and weight. Your veterinarian can provide personalized feeding recommendations based on your pet's age, activity level, and health status.
At what age can I start feeding raw?
Many pet owners transition their dogs and cats to raw at various ages. Consult your veterinarian before making any dietary changes, especially for puppies, senior pets, or pets with health conditions.
Can I mix kibble and raw?
Many raw feeding advocates don't recommend mixing kibble and raw in the same meal, as they digest at different rates. Consult your veterinarian about the best transition approach for your pet.
Safety & Handling
How should I handle raw pet food safely?
Handle raw pet food with the same food safety practices you'd use for raw meat in your own kitchen. Wash hands, utensils, and surfaces thoroughly after handling. Keep raw food separate from human food. Follow proper storage guidelines.
How long should I let the food stay out?
Most raw feeders recommend no longer than 20 minutes. If your pet hasn't finished eating within that time, cover the food or put it in a container and store in the fridge.
Can I refreeze meat after it's been thawed?
While many raw feeders do refreeze thawed meat for convenience, follow standard food safety practices and use your best judgment. When in doubt, consult food safety guidelines.
How long is defrosted meat good for in the fridge?
Typically 3-4 days when stored properly in the refrigerator. Always check for signs of spoilage before feeding.
Nutrition & Supplements
Do I need to add supplements?
A fully balanced raw diet with a variety of proteins and organs may provide complete nutrition. However, your veterinarian can advise whether your pet needs specific supplements based on their individual health needs.
What about organs?
In a typical raw diet, the total amount of secreting organs is 10% of the total meal. 5% of that is usually liver, and the other 5% can be other secreting organs such as kidney, spleen, or testicles. Muscular organs such as heart, lungs, and tripe are often fed between 15-20% within the 80% muscle meat portion.
Why do I need to feed bone and is this safe?
Raw bones can provide calcium and trace minerals. They may also help clean your pet's teeth. Never feed cooked bones or weight-bearing bones. Only feed appropriately sized raw bones suitable for your pet's size. Our grinds have ground bone included, but we also sell without bone for those who prefer to feed bone separately. Consult your veterinarian about appropriate bone feeding for your pet.
Do I need to rotate proteins?
Many raw feeders rotate proteins to provide variety and a broader nutrient profile. This can help prevent boredom and food sensitivities. Variety can include single proteins, a mix of proteins, or a change in raw meaty bones and organs on a weekly or monthly basis.
Are raw eggs good to feed?
Raw eggs are nutrient-dense and many raw feeders include them in their pets' diets. When feeding raw eggs, feed the whole egg—both the yolk and the white. Consult your veterinarian about incorporating eggs into your pet's diet.
Should I add any oils?
Some raw feeders add animal-based oils like fish or krill oils, which contain omega-3 fatty acids. Consult your veterinarian about whether oil supplementation is appropriate for your pet and which types are best.
Common Questions
What if my pet needs to lose weight?
Consult your veterinarian for a weight loss plan tailored to your pet's needs. They can recommend appropriate feeding amounts and monitor your pet's progress.
My pet has diarrhea after starting raw. What should I do?
Digestive changes can occur when transitioning to a new diet. If diarrhea persists for more than a few days or if you're concerned, contact your veterinarian for guidance.
Since switching to raw my pet isn't drinking as much. Is this normal?
Raw food contains significantly more moisture than dry kibble (over 70% moisture), so many pets drink less water. If you're concerned about your pet's hydration, consult your veterinarian.
